Chapter 8 TEST

  • TEST: Thursday 2/25/10. Study!!!!
  • You may use any type of calculator plus your trigonometric table on your test.
  • You must memorize all relevant vocabulary and formulas.

You need to know how to:

1) use the Pythagorean theorem to find a missing side of a right triangle

2) use the converse of the Pythagorean theorem to determine if a triangle is a right triangle; if it isn’t, you should know how to determine if the triangle is acute or obtuse

3) use theorem 1 and 2 to solve a right triangle with its altitude drawn from the rt. angle

4) solve 45°-45°-90° and 30°-60°-90° triangles (including word problems)

5) find trigonometric ratios using right triangles; solve (word) problems using trigonometric ratios

6) use trigonometry to solve (word) problems involving angles of elevation or depression

7) use the law of sines to solve triangles

8) use the law of cosines to solve triangles

9) word problems- word problems! Know how to draw the situation being described and determine HOW to solve the unknown based on the given information
