Period 5 only: there were 11 students out on Friday, so you have to finish the tangent side of Thursday's handout and also Pg 488 #43, 44 and Pg 505 #1-10.
Remember: chapter test this Thursday!
I gave you all a review sheet for the chapter. It's for practice on your own and will not be collected. Expect more than those type of problems on the test. Another study guide will be given soon.
Today we begin studying the equation of a circle. Section 9-8 (last one of the chapter!)----except period 5! We had to cover section 9-7: special segments in circles.
Consider these questions that were discussed in class:
*How do you know when the equation of a certain curve is indeed its equation?
*What are the connections between the algebraic representation of a curve (the equation) and its geometric representation (its graph)?
*What makes up an equation of a curve?
ex) what makes up the equation of a line in y = mx + b? (constants and variables)
*What will you need to know about a circle in order to graph it on the coordinate plane?
(the coordinates of its center and the length of its radius).
