HW: First, READ the sections in your packet as well as section 8-2 in your text. Work on as many problems in your packet as possible (from all the pages!). Those students that are going to be ABSENT on FRIDAY (tomorrow), READ the sections in the packet and do all the problems tonight AND through the weekend (STUDY for the test too).

Today: Special Right Triangles (section 8-2 in your text): 45-45-90 and 30-60-90 triangles (except I didn’t finish the lesson with 9C).

LEARN how to find the missing sides by using the NEW formulas (side relationships). I give you a NEW HANDOUT today with these 2 triangles.

Your next TEST has been moved to TUESDAY!!!!!

Here is what you need to know:

1) how to simplify radicals

2) the definition of the geometric mean between 2 positive numbers

3) find the geometric mean between 2 numbers

4) know and state theorems 8-1, 8-2, and 8-3 and use them to find missing sides of right triangles

5) know and be able to state the Pythagorean theorem (PT); USE the PT to find a missing side

6) prove the Pythagorean theorem in more than one way

7) define Pythagorean triple and use them to find a missing side of a right triangle

8) know how to use the converse of the PT to show a triangle is a right triangle

9) know how to determine if a triangle is acute or obtuse based on the lengths of its sides

9) Explain why special right triangles with angles 45-45-90 and 30-60-90 have special sides

; know how to find missing sides of these special right triangles using their special side relationships
