Friday Sept. 11, 2009 (post #2)

Hw: Pg97-99 #23, 24, and 30. Please write the given and prove statements. Draw the diagram. Create the 2-column proof as is modeled all over this section.

Today we went over the (chapter 1) test from yesterday. Then we looked at formal proofs (2-column proofs) from the section and I explained their form and requirements. This section mainly uses properties from algebra but proofs are not limited to these reasons. You may also use any definitions and postulates from section 1-1 to section 2-4.

I highly recommend you read all the proof examples in the section. It really helps to observe the sequence and logic behind the statements of reasons of the given examples.

Don't stress too much if you feel like you can't write a proof...we have long way to go! There will plenty of teaching and practice. It's the kind of thing that gets better as you gain more and more experience.

One thing to beware of is that if you don't know your definitions, postulates, or theorems, you will be completely lost and geometric proofs are not within your reach...
