Tues 09/28/10

HW: study for the quiz: sections 2-3 and 2-4
By the way! I just typed up a practice quiz. There is a notational error in the given part of the proof problem... notice what it is? I hope you all got the handout since I did it after lunch. If you need one, send me an email requesting it.

QUIZ tomorrow.
From section 2-3 study the laws of detachment and syllogism. Study the exercises in the section. There were 2 types: 1) the kind where 3 statements were given and you must decide if the 3rd one is a valid conclusion (and by which law if so) and
2) Two statements are given and you must write the 3rd statement (if possible) and state the law you used or determine there is NO conclusion.
Practice!

From section 2-4 you should study all the algebra properties of equality. Also, practice all the problems from the hw in that section. Some problems require you to state the property or postulate or definition that makes a statement true. Others were proofs! There were algebraic and geometric proofs. Read, understand, and practice as many as you can!
Today: we went over last night's HW and then proved 2 theorems from section 2-6: 1) All right angles are congruent and 2) Vertical angles are congruent. These proofs go in your notes handed out last friday. Also, see page 108 for the set up and proof of theorem 2-4. If you can understand it, then you should be able to write the proof of theorem 2-5 on your own.
