Fri 01/22/10

HW: Handout. #1-6. Do only the problems on the side of the square roots review. It's review "236" at the top of the page.

Today we are reviewing some important advanced algebra 1 skills that you will need for upcoming geometry sections. We are relearning how to simplify and operate with radical expressions. You will need to know by memory, the square numbers from 1-400 (there are 20).
You will need to know what it means and how to simplify a radical- we are not interested in the decimal approximation when we do this. You will also need to know how to add, subtract, multiply and divide radical expressions. Division is a bit tricky. You will learn about conjugates which help deal with quotients that contain radicals in their denominator.

On Monday, we will continue the algebra review and add on "Solving quadratic equations with the quadratic formula".

After this review, we will learn about the 'Golden Ratio' and then the wonderful world of right triangles (The Pythagorean Theorem, Trigonometry, etc.). Fun stuff!!!
