Tues 02/02/10

HW: Handout on the Pythagorean theorem and geometric mean. Practice, practice! Since we started working on it in class, do both sides (except on side with page 13, omit #13-18).

NEXT TEST is Tuesday 2/9

Today we saw one version of a proof of the Pythagorean Theorem. We used our theorem 2 which uses geometric mean. Most of you seemed to understand it. There are many, many other proofs! Just google "proof of the Pythagorean theorem" and you'll have an endless number of websites devoted to it! A certain website has 100 different proofs!

YOU MUST have a record of the proof on your notes and the handout with the tips for the proof that I handed out at the beginning of class today. It cannot be rewritten enough. Be ready to do it on your next test....which is next TUESDAY 2/9.

I love math!!! By the way, I had a baby May 26, 2010 (William, little Will) and he is doing great! This is my 9th year teaching math and my 2nd year at TPA. I have been teaching geometry at least twice a day since 2004 so it is a math subject I know inside and out!

In 2000, I received my B.S. from UCLA for Applied Math and a minor in French. I love languages. I'm fluent in Spanish too. I was born in El Salvador and have lived in Los Angeles since 1981, when I was 5...are you doing some math yet? I was always good at math, so this definitely helped my interest in the subject. I actually applied to colleges as a math major because I couldn't think of another subject I could dedicate a few years to and not be bored! I had no idea I was going to be a teacher until 2001. I got a job teaching 8th grade algebra and was suddenly thrown into the world of the Los Angeles Unified School District. After 2 years, it hit me like a ton of bricks! I love teaching. I want to teach math forever! So the following year I earned my teaching credential and a masters in Multicultural Education from National University. It's now 2004 and I finally got to teach at the high school level. I worked at Birmingham High school until the day I literally got into my car and drove to Tempe- the Friday of the last day of the Fall semester this year, February 6, 2009.
